The McGillicuddy Golden Wedding Trophy

Cypress Bridge Club was formed to fill a Thursday night vacancy,in the new Templeogue Bridge Centre which opened in 1998. The Club was in existence for 2 or 3 years prior to that, to build up memberships and raise funds.

It was fist known as the Thursday Club. It was changed to Cypress Club after playing for a while

Florence McGillicuddy had been the first President of the Club and as 1999 was his and his wife Kay’s, Golden Wedding Anniversary, the Committee, under the presidency of Deirdre Lohan, as a wedding present.. presented them, with a trophy, to be played for annually.

It has been played for, each year, under the title of

‘The McGillicuddy Golden Wedding Trophy’.

10th January 2019 was the most recent it was held. All the sections of the Club competed. The winners were the couple with the highest percentage. The winners this year were Helen Dawson and Mary Marrinan, who topped the A1 section.

The prizes were presented on the 24th. January. The Trophy itself, was presented to Helen and Mary by Florence. Sadly Kay had passed away in 2015. She would have been delighted that Mary and Helen had won it.
